Connect Smartsupp to ChatGPT

Connect your Smartsupp account to ChatGPT and work with your live chat data using plain-language prompts.

Connect Smartsupp to ChatGPT and work with your live chat data just by asking. Instead of clicking through the dashboard, you type a plain sentence — ChatGPT finds the information, summarizes it, or performs the action for you.

We've broken the article into a few sections:

Before you start

🟡 Requirement: You need a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise). Custom plugins are not available on the free ChatGPT plan.

You'll also need your Smartsupp login details — during the setup you'll sign in to your Smartsupp account to approve the connection.

Connect Smartsupp to ChatGPT

1. Open Settings. In ChatGPT, click your account in the bottom-left corner and select Settings.

2. Go to Plugins. In the Settings menu, open Plugins and click Browse plugins.

3. Add a new plugin. On the Plugins page, click the + button next to the search bar and use the following values:

Name: Smartsupp

  • Connection: keep the switch on Server URL (not Tunnel)

  • URL: https://mcp.smartsupp.com/mcp

  • Authentication: OAuth

Tick "I understand and want to continue" and click Create.

4. Authorize the connection. ChatGPT redirects you to a Smartsupp login page in your browser. Sign in to approve the access — you approve the connection by logging in, and ChatGPT never sees your Smartsupp password.

⚠️ Note: The authorization automatically uses the Smartsupp account you're currently logged into in your browser. If you manage more than one Smartsupp account, double-check you're logged into the right one before you authorize.

5. Verify it works. Open a new chat and try a simple request, for example "List all agents on my Smartsupp account." If ChatGPT replies with your agent list, the connection is up and running.

What you can do

Once connected, ChatGPT can read your Smartsupp data and manage your inbox on your instruction. Here are the main things to try — just write them as a normal sentence:

Conversation overview

Find and summarize conversations without digging through your inbox.

  • "Show me the conversations from the last week."

  • "Summarize this conversation in three sentences."

  • "Which conversations are still open?"

Statistics

Pull the numbers for any period you choose.

  • "How many new conversations did we have last week?"

  • "How many conversations were closed in June?"

  • "Break down the new conversations day by day."

Contacts

Look up a customer and their details.

  • "Find the contact with the email jan@example.com."

  • "What tags does this customer have?"

  • "Does this contact have GDPR consent?"

Tags

Keep your inbox organized.

  • "Tag this conversation with Complaint."

  • "Create a new tag called VIP."

  • "Remove the Spam tag from this conversation."

Conversation management

Assign the right person and manage the flow of each conversation.

  • "Assign this conversation to the agent Marie."

  • "Reopen this conversation."

  • "Close this conversation."

Replies to the chat

React directly from ChatGPT.

  • "Send to this conversation: Thank you for your patience, we're on it."

  • "Ask the customer whether they still need help."

💡 Ideas to try: A morning digest ("Summarize yesterday's conversations and highlight the ones that need a reply"), inbox triage ("Go through the open conversations and suggest which ones to tag as urgent"), or a quick report ("Compare the number of new conversations this week and last week").

Good to know

  • ChatGPT works with your real Smartsupp data. You approve the access by logging in (OAuth) — ChatGPT never sees your password.

  • Reading (overviews, statistics, contacts) is fully available.

  • Actions (replies, tags, assignments, opening/closing conversations) are only performed when you ask for them — you stay in control.

  • Occasionally ChatGPT's own safety checks may decline a request before it reaches Smartsupp. If that happens, rephrase the request and try again.
