Connect Smartsupp to the AI assistant you already use (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) and work with your inbox just by asking. Instead of clicking through conversations, you type a plain sentence and your assistant reads your real Smartsupp data to answer it.
💡 No coding needed in Claude or ChatGPT. You add Smartsupp in the app's settings and sign in with your normal Smartsupp account. There's no API key to create.
We've broken the article into a few sections:
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to the apps you use. Think of it as a USB-C port for AI: Smartsupp provides one connection point, and any assistant that supports MCP can plug into it. You connect once, and your assistant can work with your inbox whenever you ask.
What you can do with it
Start your day in seconds. Get a summary of what came in overnight and see which conversations still need a reply.
Find what customers said. Look up conversations by date, tag, agent or customer, or ask about a topic, and read the full history without opening the inbox.
Get numbers on demand. Conversation volume and agent activity for any period you choose.
Keep the inbox tidy. Tag, assign, open and close conversations, and create or rename tags.
Reply and follow up. Send a message into a conversation, or email a conversation transcript.
Improve your AI agent. Find the questions your AI agent couldn't answer and where visitors weren't happy, and get suggestions for what it should learn next.
Review the month. See the main topics, trends and product questions, where visitors ask for help, and which countries they write from.
Check how your team is doing. See why your AI agent handed conversations over, how quickly agents replied and which offline messages are still waiting.
Example prompts
Start your day
"Summarise yesterday's conversations and highlight the ones that still need a reply."
"Which conversations are still open?"
Find what customers said
"Find every conversation from last week that mentions a delayed delivery."
"Show me the conversations jan@example.com had with us this month."
"Summarise this conversation in three sentences before I reply."
"Before I reply, show me which pages this visitor looked at."
Numbers on demand
"How many new conversations did we have last week compared with the week before?"
"Break down last month's conversations day by day."
Turn your inbox into a report
"Write a short report on this week's conversations for our Monday meeting: volume, the main topics customers asked about, and anything that needs attention."
Improve your AI agent (Mira AI)
"Go through last week's conversations handled by our AI agent. List every question it couldn't answer or where the visitor wasn't happy with the answer, and suggest what we should add to its knowledge."
"Find conversations from the last 7 days where a visitor rated the AI agent 1 or 2 stars, and tell me what went wrong in each."
"Which questions did visitors ask our AI agent most often this week? Group them by topic."
💡 You stay in charge of the answers. Your assistant can show where the AI agent didn't know an answer or a visitor was unhappy, but it can't tell whether an answer was correct. Check its suggestions, then add what's missing as Text content or Custom responses in your AI agent's builder. See Introduction to Mira AI Shopping Assistant and How to start train Mira AI.
Monthly reviews
"Summarise last month's conversations: the main topics, what changed compared with the month before, and any new problems customers ran into."
"Which products did customers ask about most last month, and what did they want to know: shipping, returns, sizes or availability?"
"From which pages of our website do visitors start the most conversations, and what do they ask there?"
"In which countries and languages do our visitors write to us?"
"Collect the suggestions and complaints customers sent us this month."
Work with your team
"Find last week's conversations where our AI agent handed the visitor over to an agent. Why did each visitor want a person, and how long did they wait for the first reply?"
"Compare our agents' first response time and time to close for last month."
"Read ten of Marie's conversations from this week and tell me where her replies could be clearer."
"Which conversations from last week started while we were offline, and which of them still have no reply?"
"Which tags did we use most this month?"
Keep the inbox tidy and follow up
"Tag every open conversation about returns with Returns."
"Find last week's conversations without a tag and suggest the right tag for each one. Don't tag anything until I confirm."
"Assign this conversation to Marie."
"Send to this conversation: Thank you for your patience, we're on it."
💡 Tips for busy inboxes. Your assistant opens conversations one by one, so reviewing hundreds of them takes a while and can hit your AI tool's limits. For a busy inbox, ask about a shorter period (for example the last 7 days), narrow it down by tag or agent, or ask for a sample, such as the 30 longest conversations. Smaller inboxes can easily be reviewed month by month.
⚠️ Replies and actions are real. A message you send through your AI assistant lands in the customer's chat, and closing, assigning or tagging changes the inbox for your whole team. Read what your assistant is about to do before it goes ahead, especially when it acts on many conversations at once.
What stays in Smartsupp
The connection covers your inbox: conversations, contacts, tags, assignments and statistics. Everything else (chat box settings, Flows, Mira AI, managing agents and billing) stays in your Smartsupp dashboard. Your assistant can suggest what your AI agent should learn, but adding knowledge sources, Text content or Custom responses is done in the AI agent's builder in your dashboard.
How your data is handled
You sign in with your normal Smartsupp account. The connection uses OAuth, so your password is never shared with the AI tool.
There's no API key to manage. Nothing secret to paste into a settings file.
Your permissions apply. Your assistant sees only what you can see in your Smartsupp dashboard.
You can disconnect at any time in your AI tool's settings.
Conversations you let an AI tool read are processed by the provider of that tool. If they contain personal data, check the tool against your own data-protection rules.
