How to install Smartsupp live chat on your Shopify store using the official app or manual code integration.

Want to add Smartsupp live chat to your Shopify store? This guide covers all available installation methods — from the official Shopify app to manual code integration for advanced setups.

We've broken the guide into the following sections:


Option 1: Install using the Shopify app (recommended)

The easiest way to add Smartsupp to your Shopify store is with our official app. No coding needed — just install, log in, and you're ready to chat.

Find and install the app

Log in to your Shopify store, click Apps in the main menu, then choose Customize your store. Search for Smartsupp and add the app to your store.

Choose the Smartsupp app and click Add app to install it in your Shopify store.

Install Smartsupp

Once you've added Smartsupp, click Install to complete the installation.

Log in to your Smartsupp account

After installation, click the Smartsupp icon. You can Create a free account or Connect an existing account. Log in with your Smartsupp credentials to link your account.

Tip: The Shopify app is the fastest and safest way to install Smartsupp. After connecting your account, you just need to enable the widget in your theme (see below).


Option 2: Enable the widget in your theme

After installing the Smartsupp app, you need to enable the chat widget in your Shopify theme settings. Follow these steps:

Open Online Store

Log in to your Shopify store and open Online Store from the main menu.

Customize your theme

Go to Themes > Customize, then open Theme settings.

Enable Smartsupp widget

Click on App embeds and toggle the Smartsupp widget to enable it on your website. Click Save to apply the changes.

Tip: After enabling the widget, open your store's homepage and refresh the page — the Smartsupp chat widget should now be visible.


Option 3: Manual code installation

If you need to connect one Smartsupp account to multiple Shopify sites, or if you prefer manual control, you can insert the Smartsupp chat code directly into your theme files.

Note: Direct editing of theme files can break your store if not done correctly. If you're not comfortable with code, ask your web developer for help.

Copy the chat code

Find your unique Smartsupp chat code in the dashboard under Settings > Chatbox > Installation > Put code.

Paste the code into your theme

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and click Edit code. Open the theme.liquid file and paste the Smartsupp chat code just before the closing </head> tag. Save the file.

Important notes

Billing through Shopify

If you install Smartsupp via the Shopify app, your subscription payments are processed through Shopify. Any billing changes should be made directly in the Shopify billing section. Smartsupp has no access to edit or change your billing information. Only monthly subscriptions are available through the Shopify app.

Note: If you have any payment issues with your Shopify-billed subscription, please contact Shopify support directly. Smartsupp cannot modify Shopify billing.

Note: Shopify does not allow connecting one Smartsupp account to multiple Shopify sites. If you have multiple stores, use the manual code installation method described above.

Note: If the chat widget does not appear after installation, try clearing your browser cache and refreshing your website. If the problem persists, reinstall the Smartsupp app from the Shopify App Store.
