Introduction to Mira AI Shopping Assistant

Discover how Mira AI Shopping Assistant can enhance your online shopping experience with personalized recommendations and real-time product insights.

Mira AI is your personal AI Shopping Assistant that recommends products, answers FAQs, and handles routine shopping conversations on your e-shop 24/7. This guide walks you through setting up Mira AI, choosing the right knowledge sources, and previewing your assistant before you go live.

We've broken the guide into the following sections:

Before you start

Get ready to ride the wave of AI-powered shopping. Mira AI tackles your e-shop's most common challenges — recommending products, answering FAQs, and offloading repetitive conversations from your support team.

To set up Mira AI, you'll need:

  • An active Smartsupp account — Mira AI is a paid add-on you can buy on any plan, including Free (no need to upgrade your base plan).

  • At least one knowledge source — your website URL, an XML product feed, custom text content, or your own Q&A pairs (you can mix and match).

  • A few minutes — most stores have Mira up and running in under 10 minutes.

Tip: Mira AI isn't free, but you can add it as a separate package to any plan, including Free, without upgrading your base plan. See our current pricing page for plan details and message limits.

Note: Mira AI runs in the chat widget on your website (not yet on Messenger, WhatsApp, or email). Also, when all your operators are offline, the chat box shows visitors a contact form first — to have Mira answer around the clock without the form, keep one operator permanently logged in.

Build your AI Shopping Assistant

Mira AI is set up in the Mira AI section of your Smartsupp dashboard. Follow these four steps to launch your assistant.

Step 1 — Open the Mira AI section

In your Smartsupp dashboard, click the magic wand icon to open the Mira AI section and select AI Assistants. You'll see a 30-day summary of how your assistants perform (AI conversations, resolved by AI, escalated to human, products offered) and the list of your assistants. Open the one you want to edit, or click Create agent to build a new one.

Step 2 — Add knowledge sources

In the agent's builder, open the Knowledge base section and pick a source type — Web scrape, XML Product feed, Text content, or Custom responses. Click Add new source and follow the short wizard. The more accurate and complete your sources are, the better the answers.

When adding a web scrape source, choose how to import the information — Scan important pages lets Mira AI analyze your website and pick the key pages, while Scan a single page uses only the exact page you enter.

You have four source types to choose from — see the next section for the differences.

Step 3 — Customize behavior & skills

Open the Behavior tab and set how your assistant communicates using four sliders — Tone of voice (friendly, casual, or professional), Talkativeness (from brief to chatty), Confidence (how much assurance the AI shows in its answers), and Emoji (how often it uses them). You can change these settings anytime — the AI adapts to your choices.

Note: You can freely set your assistant's name, avatar, and personality — but the small AI Assistant label shown beneath the name is system-generated and can't be renamed or customized (custom labels such as a Shopping Assistant tag aren't supported).

Below the sliders you'll find Product recommendation — this skill becomes active once you add and activate your product feed in the Knowledge base section. Whether Mira hands conversations over to a human agent is set separately in Settings → Handover: choose Never handover to an operator or Handover when convenient or on demand.

Step 4 — Test in the Playground & publish

Before going live, use the Playground panel on the right side of the builder to test how Mira AI replies to real customer queries. Try product recommendations, FAQs, and edge cases — adjust your sources or behavior until you're happy with the answers. Then click Publish changes to make your assistant live.

Two everyday scenarios where Mira AI shines:

Product recommendation: Maria, an amateur with limited camera knowledge, wants to buy a digital camera. As she browses, she turns to the chat for guidance. Mira AI asks about her preferences, recommends a well-suited category, and answers her follow-up questions — with the option to hand over to a live agent if needed.

Answering FAQs: Stephanie isn't sure about payment methods and delivery. She asks Mira AI and gets detailed answers, including delivery pricing. When she wants to read the terms and conditions, Mira sends her the direct links — and if she still needs more, the conversation can be picked up by a live agent.

How knowledge sources work

Mira AI supports four source types. You can combine them all for the best results.

  • Web scrape — downloads basic information from your website such as contact details, FAQs, shipping info, and similar pages. Specific product information is not included — that's what the product feed is for.

  • XML Product feed — your product catalog with prices, availability, descriptions, and images. The richer the feed, the smarter the recommendations.

  • Text content — anything you want Mira to know that isn't on your website yet. Great for internal policies, seasonal info, or special offers.

  • Custom responses — your own question & answer pairs. Mira AI always prioritizes this knowledge over other sources — ideal for fine-tuning specific answers.

💡 Tip: You'll find all data sources across all your AI assistants in one place under Mira AI → Sources. Each source shows which assistant it is assigned to, its status, and the last update.

Product feed info: Mira AI supports the most common product feed formats. If you want to learn how to export a product feed from your e-commerce platform, see our dedicated guide.

Note: Mira AI only answers from the sources you provide. If a question can't be answered from your website or product feed, add the missing info as Text content — otherwise Mira will politely decline rather than make something up.

Manage your knowledge sources

Once you've added your first sources, each source list comes with a few tools to keep things tidy.

  • Bulk actions — select multiple sources at once and update or delete them in a single click.

  • Search bar — quickly find a specific source by name.

  • On/off toggle — temporarily disable a source without deleting it.

  • Automatic updates — for website sources, choose how often Mira re-reads the page: every month, every 2 weeks, or off.

For each source, the menu next to it gives you these quick actions:

  • Source preview — check exactly what data Mira AI downloaded and make sure it has everything it needs.

  • Edit — change the source name or URL.

  • Update — re-download the source content right away.

  • Delete — remove the source.
