Mira AI is your personal AI Shopping Assistant — a chatbot that recommends products, answers FAQs, and handles routine shopping conversations on your e-shop 24/7. This guide walks you through setting up Mira AI, choosing the right knowledge sources, and previewing your assistant before you go live.
We've broken the guide into the following sections:
Before you start
Get ready to ride the wave of AI-powered shopping. Mira AI tackles your e-shop's most common challenges — recommending products, answering FAQs, and offloading repetitive conversations from your support team.
To set up Mira AI, you'll need:
An active Smartsupp account on a plan that includes the AI Shopping Assistant.
At least one knowledge source — your website URL, an XML product feed, or custom text content (you can mix and match).
A few minutes — most stores have Mira up and running in under 10 minutes.
Tip: Mira AI is available on Smartsupp plans that include AI features — see our current pricing page for plan details and message limits.
Build your AI Shopping Assistant
Mira AI is built directly inside the Smartsupp chatbot builder. Follow these four steps to launch your assistant.
Step 1 — Open the AI Builder
In your Smartsupp dashboard, click the magic wand icon to open the chatbot builder. AI Shopping Assistants live alongside your other chatbots.
Step 2 — Add knowledge sources
Open the Sources tab and add the content Mira AI will use to answer questions. The more accurate and complete your sources are, the better the answers.
You have three source types to choose from — see the next section for the differences.
Step 3 — Customize behavior & skills
Choose a persona for your assistant — name, avatar, and personality. Once your persona is ready, you can reuse it across other AI chatbots or start fresh each time.
Next, choose a tone of voice — friendly, formal, or anything in between — and decide whether Mira should recommend products and how (and when) to hand the conversation over to a human agent.
Step 4 — Preview & test
Before going live, click Preview and test how Mira AI replies to real customer queries. Try product recommendations, FAQs, and edge cases — adjust your sources or persona until you're happy with the answers.
Two everyday scenarios where Mira AI shines:
Product recommendation: Maria, an amateur with limited camera knowledge, wants to buy a digital camera. As she browses, she turns to the chat for guidance. Mira AI asks about her preferences, recommends a well-suited category, and answers her follow-up questions — with the option to hand over to a live agent if needed.
Answering FAQs: Stephanie isn't sure about payment methods and delivery. She asks Mira AI and gets detailed answers, including delivery pricing. When she wants to read the terms and conditions, Mira sends her the direct links — and if she still needs more, the conversation can be picked up by a live agent.
Knowledge sources explained
Mira AI supports three source types. You can combine all three for the best results.
Web scrape — automatically extracts content from your website. Useful for FAQs, policies, shipping info, and product detail pages.
XML product feed — your product catalog with prices, availability, descriptions, and images. The richer the feed, the smarter the recommendations.
Custom text — anything you want Mira to know that isn't on your website yet. Great for internal policies, seasonal info, or special offers.
Product feed info: Mira AI supports the most common product feed formats. If you want to learn how to export a product feed from your e-commerce platform, see our dedicated guide.
Note: Mira AI only answers from the sources you provide. If a question can't be answered from your website or product feed, add the missing info as Custom text — otherwise Mira will politely decline rather than make something up.
