Big Cartel is a simple e-commerce platform for artists, makers, and small businesses. This guide shows you how to add the Smartsupp live chat and chatbot widget to your Big Cartel store in a few steps.

Before you start
Big Cartel lets you edit your theme code only on paid plans (Platinum and above). If you're still on the free plan, you'll need to upgrade before you can add the Smartsupp widget.
Copy the Smartsupp code
Log in to your Smartsupp dashboard and go to Settings > Chatbox > Installation > Insert code. Copy the entire code snippet.
Paste the code into Big Cartel
In your Big Cartel admin, open Customize Design and click Edit Theme Code. Find the layout.bc template and paste the Smartsupp code just before the closing </head> tag. Click Save to apply the changes.
Verify the installation
Open your Big Cartel store in a new browser tab and refresh the page. The Smartsupp chat widget should now appear in the corner of your site.
Tip: If the chat widget doesn't show up, clear your browser cache or open your store in an incognito window. Also make sure the code was saved correctly in the layout.bc template.
